Breaking Ground

Today we woke up at 6, so that we could have breakfast and leave by 7.  Our group split in two today, each half going to the two different building sites.  Our group piled into a van smaller than mom´s van, but big enough to hold 18 people!  The car ride took about 1 1/2 hours, and the final half hour was spent on a ¨road¨ that the van could only drive half way on.  Read More …

The Bishop & The Flatbed

Yesterday, after we returned home from the market, we ate one of El Salvador´s cultural dishes . . . the pupusa.  Jessica helped make them!  It´s basically a tortilla filled with cheese or beans and then grilled on a hot stove.  And yes, Isaac, they really were delicious. Saturday, Day 1

Things are going incredibly well.  We arrived at the Lutheran Guest house in El Salvador and met two wonderful sisters and their children.  Levi and Caedmon have taken to them and consequently we have babysitters.  Today we visited the Jesuit University.  Toward the end of the civil war here, 6 priests were killed (this was in the late 80´s.)  The university has set up a museum in their honor.  I got to see the clerical Read More …
